Tim Burton’s Your Weekend Justice #105

It’s Weekend Justice: the Internet’s #1 audio trainwreck now in a special Tim Burtonized edition starring Johnny Depp as Jon Boutelle and Helena Bonham Carter as ScottC with Rox of Spazhouse, Herbert Lom’s actual grand-niece, as herself. Also appearing are Oliver Reed as Serv and Yvonne Romain as Leigh. I am portrayed in the podcast by Frankenweenie. This podcast was engineered–some might say over-engineered–by experts to escort you from the work week in the most chaotic manner possible. Please note: this podcast is profane, definitely oversexed and definitely overwrought. It is wrong and unsafe. But this week, the costumes are awesome. You have been warned.

Stuff: Tarsem’s Film Hopefully a Hyperion to “Clash of the Titans”‘ Satyr

Mickey Rourke as Hyperion from Immortals

There are some people who need every little pop culture news tidbit the moment it comes off the presses. They like reading press releases converted into 250 words of article. This feature is not for them. This feature is for people who need to know the important bits and don’t have time for the extraneous info. If that’s you: enjoy.

  • Immortals is what War of the Gods is called now. Tarsem is directing Mickey Rourke as a mad Hyperion trying to kill mankind. Seriously. What else do you need to know? If you don’t know what I’m talking about, go back and watch The Cell and The Fall and tell yourself that that man is going to bring you GODS THAT FIGHT.
  • American Horror Story is the show that FX has ordered a pilot of from the people who brought you Glee. You know what would make the show a slam-dunk for me? Get Kings of Leon to do the theme. Source.
  • Here’s one way to do it: create a video game trailer that’s so awesome that you sell the film rights on the strength of it before the game even hits. That’s Dead Island, of course–although the rights were bought before the trailer, even. Bought in 2009. Just damn. Anyway, the trailer is what everybody has been sending me, trying to get me to buy a console. Bastards. Anyway, fine, here’s the trailer. This is more of a horror movie than, well, most horror movies. Watch it after the break.

  • Your Weekend Justice #84: Who’s Hoofing Who?

Oh for crying out loud. Not another one! Yes, another one. It’s Weekend Justice: the podcast that doesn’t owe you an explanation and won’t split the cost of the appetizer with you. This podcast was engineered–some might say over-engineered–by experts to escort you from the work week in the most chaotic manner possible. Please note: this podcast is profane, definitely oversexed and definitely overwrought. It is wrong and unsafe. You have been warned.

    Whitey from Power Pack

    Agenda:

Stuff: Python Reunion, Hold the Cleese

    John Cleese and Snake

To paraphrase Lewis Carroll, we give you the stuff you need to know. When we get to the end of that, we stop. Enjoy.

  • It’s an almost Monty Python reunion as everybody but John Cleese is on hand for when Not The Messiah (He’s A Very Naughty Boy) hits Europe at last on October 23rd. It’s for the 40th Anniversary of the show, and the fact that only a six-part docu is going to be aired and then hit DVD doesn’t make sense–in the sense that that’s all they’re going to do. Blu-Ray release or…what? Because it’s not like them to not try and make more money. Not that I necessarily blame them. I’m just saying. Source. Rob gave us the headsup.
  • Considering how much shit Tony Jaa’s Ong Bak 2 went through to get made, I’m even more impressed with the trailer. Because it makes it look good.

Seriously, the dude just ran up an elephant’s face to flip-kick a guy. How cool is that? Found at Twitch, where they have the French trailer in which Jaa fights a crocodile. Nice. Direct link for the feedreaders. Headsup via Unidentified Madman.

Stuff You Need to Know, Wednesday, December 24, 2008

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader book cover art
  • Dawn Treader has no Disney. Hollywood Reporter does an analysis of the situation fairly well, showing that the Narnia franchise is on a downward slope and Disney feels like it’s time to get while the getting’s good. Of course, what they leave out is that the reason Lion did well as compared to Caspian is that fool us once shame on you, fool us twice shame on us. Your Caspian audience, I think, were the kids who just didn’t know any better. But of course, Hollywood, since it can’t accept responsibility when it fucks up something, will simply show this as waning interest in fantasy flicks for kids. Morons.
  • Clive Owen will star in Cartagena a story about the fit hitting the shan for an undercover agent who’s in the middle of the Colombian drug cartel scene. Source: Hollywood Reporter.
  • Interesting. Rather than screw around with the censors and so forth in China, Warner Brothers just isn’t releasing Dark Knight in China. Which means that those who haven’t already purchased a pirated copy in that country will now. Source: Variety.
