Wayhomer Review #121: Snow White and the Huntsman

Charlize Theron as Ravenna in Snow White and the Huntsman

Episode #121 for Snow White and the Huntsman, in which our protagonist bemoans the fact that a well-placed cast can’t save everything, bemoans the fact that you really shouldn’t inflate your running time to show off your art design, and really thinks it’s a bad idea to remind people there are fantasy movies out there better constructed than yours.

Win Young Adult on DVD!

Young Adult DVD

It’s Young Adult, hitting DVD from Paramount and starring Charlize Theron, Patton Oswalt and Patrick Wilson. Here’s what they have to say for themselves:

A brilliant and bittersweet comedy about the harsh realities of growing up, YOUNG ADULT debuts on Blu-ray and DVD (both with UltraVioletâ„¢) on March 13, 2012, as well as On Demand and for Digital Download on March 9, 2012 from Paramount Home Media Distribution. Nominated for a 2012 Golden Globe® for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture–Comedy or Musical, Charlize Theron is “a comic force of nature” (Peter Travers, Rolling Stone) as Mavis Gary, a former prom queen and current writer of young adult novels who returns to her hometown in order to win back her now-married high school sweetheart. The film reunites director Jason Reitman (Up In The Air) with screenwriter Diablo Cody, whose work was nominated for Best Original Screenplay by the Writers Guild of America and the Broadcast Film Critics Association. Hailed as a “one-of-a-kind comedy” (Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly), YOUNG ADULT also stars Patton Oswalt as one of Mavis’ former classmates, a role that earned him nominations for Best Supporting Actor from the Los Angeles, Chicago, Toronto and Broadcast Film Critics Associations.

The YOUNG ADULT DVD includes the commentary, scene deconstruction and select deleted scenes. All Blu-ray and DVD releases available for purchase will be enabled with UltraViolet, a new way to collect, access and enjoy movies. With UltraViolet, consumers can add movies to their digital collection in the cloud, and then stream or download them – reliably and securely – to a variety of devices.

Stuff: Andrew Garfield Spidey-Suits Up

Amazing Spider-Man

The Pareto Principle states that 80% of the worthwhile pop culture news can be snagged by only taking in 20% of the volume of regular pop culture news coverage. (Or something like that.) This post is designed for anyone who wants pop culture news in digestible bits, all in one shot, so that person can take a few minutes to get up to speed and then get on with their lives. Enjoy.

  • Amazing Spider-Man has a release date: July 3, 2012. And while a previous picture showed a slightly battered Andrew Garfield in most of the Spidey suit, the official site now has a pic that’s supposed to be Garfield in full gear. I dunno…works for me. Click through to the official site to embiggen it.
  • Dominic Cooper has signed on to play Henry, the friendly neighborhood vampire, in Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter. Source.
  • Atlas Shrugged Part 1 has a trailer and a release date of April 15th. It looks, however, frighteningly good. Whatever it turns out to be, I imagine it has a screenwriter that didn’t blatantly misread the original novel. I won’t mention any names, because that would be indiscreet. Randall Wallace. Trailer comes after the break.
