Bewitched Tooned-up Television Maquettes (2003)

Produced by Electric Tiki

Asking Price: $79 each.

My Advice: Hardcore fans must own.

Electric Tiki, they of the freaky-cool logo, have produced a line of maquettes where they take professional animators (in this case, Tracy M. Lee) and have them design toon versions of classic television characters. Here we have Serena and Samantha from Bewitched. Samantha (played in the show by Elizabeth Montgomery) was a witch who didn't want to do much except be a wife and homemaker, despite the protestations of her family. Her cousin, Serena (also played by Montgomery), was the yang to Sam's yin--a bit of a wild child, the last thing she wanted was to settle down.

Samantha's maquette shows her in her mortal wear outfit, a short black one-piece outfit with "witchy" shoes on. She's in a pose that suggest she's about to wiggle her nose and work some magic. Serena's maquette is her in one of her usual wild get ups--a mini-dress with feathers all over the place, sculpted nicely to give them the appropriate look. She also has a peace sign necklace on, which comes wrapped in packaging so that it doesn't scuff her up while in the box.

Probably the most impressive thing about these maquettes are their faces. While of course they're "tooned up" as promised and exagerrated accordingly, they both have expressions that have captured the characters perfectly. Samantha's is knowing but perhaps a little mischievous, whereas Serena is smug and more than a little mischievous. The family resemblance is there in other words.

Limited to 1500 pieces each, one out of every six Serenas comes in the green outfit you see here. The default dress color is red. Serious fans of the show will want to pick this up--it's a unique way to present classic TV characters so that it's something old and new at the same time.
