Headsup: Vampires, Resurrected Cats & Redheads — All Dangerous in Their Own Way

There’s a lot of stuff that comes out all the time, and the companies are want your attention and mostly…your coin. But, you know, it’s your coin and you have to take care where you spend it. With these posts we try to take you through recent releases so you can make up your mind. If you find the info here to be of use, do us a favor and purchase stuff from Amazon through us. Especially if you were going to buy the stuff anyway. That gives us kickbacks, which help pay for things. Like the server. And coffee. And therapy. We thank you.

Kickstarter Kthursday #5: New Geeks & Urban Zombies

Geek a Week Season 4 cards

We start off this week’s exploration of cool Kickstarters with some guy named Len Peralta. I dunno, the name rings a bell. He’s launching his fourth season of his wickedly successful trading card series, Geek a Week. Included in this new eight card run are Need Coffee poet laureate Ernie Cline and comic god Roy Thomas. Nice. Also with this round, you have the opportunity to get in on the action–one of the reward levels includes you becoming part of the limited edition Fan Set. For full details, check out the Kickstarter page. Len’s vid is below.

Kickstarter Kthursday #4: Ostriches, Cthulhu & Other Monsters

Ostrich pillow

So wound up taking a week off again last week due to a bit of overwhelm, but we’re back with more Kickstarters that make me amused and/or excited and/or willing to throw coin at people. Ignore the silent K and we begin with this:

While I make the claim of never sleeping that is, unfortunately–with our current level of science, anyway–a bit of a stretch. I do on occasion give in and have to shut my eyes for a few minutes. And while the creators of this first Kickstarter talk a lot about power napping–I have mastered the art of the power coma. Whenever I stop moving, my body goes on auto-pilot and tries to shut down to conserve what little energy I have remaining. I’m like the walking version of that website where people try to document how far their cars can go after their empty gas tank indicator has come on.

So that being said, when I do conk out, there are more effective ways to do it than simply putting my head down in a zoo full of screaming children and peacocks (long story). So the Ostrich Pillow shows some promise in that regard. And not just because the dude in the picture there looks like some kind of bizarre cosplay E.T.-by-way-of-Gerald-Scarfe-rendered-in-felt.

Kickstarter Kthursday #3: Pinball Arcade & Die Hard

Star Trek: Next Generation pinball

After a week off for DragonCon, we return with a pair of Kickstarters that caught my eye. It’s Thursday, so we throw on the unnecessary K and get started with a confession:

Okay, here’s the thing. I’m a pinball junkie. Not a wizard, mind you…but a junkie. When I found there was pinball ROM emulation software to let you play pinball simulations on Windows…holy crap, I think I lost an entire week. One of my life goals is to go to Las Vegas and get lost in the Pinball Hall of Fame. So when I hear that there’s a group called FarSight Studios that’s working on digitizing pinball games so you can play them on multiple modern gaming platforms–and that they’ve already successfully raised the funds necessary to digitize my favorite pinball game of all time–the Twilight Zone game? All I can say is hell, yes.

If you watch till the end of the video that comes after the break, you could be a pinball geek. I’m just saying.
