32 Days of Halloween XVII, Day 30
X Minus One: There Will Come Soft Rains
Operating at the V&A
First up tonight, There Will Come Soft Rains, a short story by Ray Bradbury. It’s been featured here before, as a Russian animated short, and also read by Burgess Meredith and Leonard Nimoy. Now it’s here once more, this time from the radio show X Minus One and December 1956.
Then we go to the Victoria & Albert Museum and its star presenter/curator, Iona Farrell (who really needs to be on a show somewhere). They give you a tour of some of the more…unsettling medical items in their collection. And at least, if you live in America, it’ll show you that our health care system is shit, but it…was worse.
For tonight’s feature, we go to 1984 and Splatter University. Just so you know what you’re in for, it was shot originally (65 minutes of it) in 1981, and they added the rest later so they could release it. It’s…not great, but if you’re like me you’ll be filled with nostalgia for those days in which video rental stores were the only way to get anything to watch, and eventually you’ll have watched your way through the good stuff and wound up here. Enjoy!
