32 Days of Halloween XVII, Day 23
Oswald the Lucky Rabbit: Mechanical Man
Alfred Hitchcock Presents: Into Thin Air
I’m not sure how many people know about Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, seeing as how he was, in certain respects, a proto-Mickey Mouse. And he was created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks, the same pair that created Mickey. Here we have “Mechanical Man” from 1932, with the squash and stretch surreality that that era of cartoons seemed to have. I can’t find anything about this where I was looking tonight, but there is an uncommented-upon cameo by what is obviously Mickey. Go figure.
Don’t you hate it when you misplace a parent? A woman leaves her sick mother in a hotel room and comes back to find not only her mom gone but nobody seems to remember they were ever there. We have “Into Thin Air,” an episode from Alfred Hitchcock Presents. That’s Pat Hitchcock (Alfred’s daughter) in the lead role. Also watch for Alan Napier aka Adam West’s Alfred.
Then for tonight’s feature, it’s the classic from 1978: Attack of the Killer Tomatoes. I knew there had been a sequel, but I somehow missed the fact there have been three sequels. I also saw there was an animated series…and the fact this has turned into a franchise is beyond strange. Nevertheless, here is the original. Enjoy.
