32 Days of Halloween XVII, Day 14
Lights Out: TV & Radio
Lights Out existed on radio from 1934 to 1947. It made the transition to television with some specials in 1946 and then became a running series from 1949 to 1952. We’re sampling an episode of both tonight. First from the radio show and 1938, “Valse Triste,” where two women find themselves dealing a mad hermit who wants to kill one and marry the other. Then, “Dead Man’s Coat,” in which Basil Rathbone is a servant enlisted to help grave rob the coat from the recently deceased…because wearing it will grant invisibility. (Never heard that before, but you know, I’ve never heard of a lot of thinks before.)
For tonight’s feature, we go to 1970 and The Beast in the Cellar. When soldiers are being murdered nearby, two sisters think they know the culprit. Might it be the titular beast? Mmmm…could beeeee. Enjoy.
