The Monster & The Girl!

32 Days of Halloween XVII, Day 8

The Veil: Girl on the Road

We may have had a couple of these before but I don’t think we’ve shown them all. And Vincent Price could shill for any damn thing and make it sophisticated IMO.

From Price to Karloff. It still blows my mind that The Veil exists…it was created, pilot shot and ten episodes produced before getting canceled. And then…it never made it to television in its original form. Apparently they spliced episodes together and released them as TV movies eventually. But still…even Netflix looks at that kind of behavior and says, “Man, you need to calm down a bit.” Granted, Zaslav at Warner Brothers says, “Yes, yes, perfect! Do more!”

From 1941, a film that could have been a salvaged version of an Ultra-Humanite solo film. (Sorry, deep cut.) When a church organist goes up against the mob to save his sister and winds up dead, there’s only one thing to do: put his brain in a gorilla. Thus…The Monster and The Girl! Among the cast, a veritable who’s who of character actors at the time…tons of “Hey, I know them!” There’s Ellen Drew (Isle of the Dead), Robert Paige (Son of Dracula), Paul Lukas (20,000 Leagues Under the Sea), Joseph Calleia (Touch of Evil), Onslow Stevens (House of Dracula), George Zucco (House of Frankenstein), and Rod Cameron (Psychic Killer). Enjoy.

The Veil is available from Amazon on DVD.

The Monster and The Girl is as well.
