Late Night Horror
Inner Sanctum: Death is a Joker
Alucarda
I’m not sure how I missed this but it’s just evidence that pop culture is so goddamn big it’s impossible to be aware of all of it. Late Night Horror was a BBC series that lasted six episodes, was aired at least twice, and then the episodes were wiped because that’s just what you did back then. (That’s why we have all those Doctor Who episodes still missing, amongst tons of other shows.) Anyway, apparently one episode turned up in 2016. This is what is available online: just the opening titles. Now I have to find that one episode. I have a mission.
Committing murder for love. It’s a tale as old as time. And it’s at least as old as 1941, in which we have the episode of Inner Sanctum known as “Death is a Joker” starring Peter Lorre.
For tonight’s feature, we have the Mexican film Alucarda from 1977. As we all know, the trouble with being young and in a Catholic convent, you really have to be careful you don’t unleash something demonic and wind up with it taking control of you. This film is no exception. Enjoy.
