The Crazies (1973)
Well, this is Vincent Price hosting a tutorial on VHS for a cutting edge 3D camera (from 1989). The company is Nishika and I’d never heard of them…that’s probably in part due to the fact they went under after being tagged for utilizing “misleading and even illegal tactics to market the camera,” according to Wikipedia (which is always right). The only horrific aspect of this is that Vincent was having to do this sort of shit just a few years before his death. I’d like to think he was doing this just to buy another few pieces of badass art.
Now we return to the land of One Step Beyond. In this episode from its first season, Cloris Leachman is a photographer who finds herself working with a strange male model (Marcel Dalio, La Grande Illusion) who isn’t what he seems. But you probably could have guessed that.
And finally, tonight’s feature—a good one for a Friday night. It’s George Romero’s The Crazies. It was remade in 2010 and wasn’t bad…but there’s just a bleakness to the original from 1973. Look for some familiar Romeroverse faces: Richard Liberty (Dr. Frankenstein from Day of the Dead), Richard France (Dr. Rausch aka That Guy With the Eyepatch from Dawn of the Dead), and even Bill Hinzman (Zombie #1 from Night of the Living Dead!).
