Headsup: Gunfire, Laughter, and Creepy Creepy Quiet

DISCLAIMER: Warner Brothers Home Entertainment requests that we note it provided a free copy of Shameless: The Eleventh and Final Season. The opinions I share are my own.

Star Trek Discovery Season 3 “After following Commander Burnham into a wormhole in the second season finale, Star Trek: Discovery – Season Three finds the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery landing in an unknown future far from the home they once knew. Now living in a time filled with uncertainty, the U.S.S. Discovery crew, along with the help of some new friends, must work together to restore hope to the Federation.” — from CBS

Now out on DVD, Blu-ray, and limited-edition Steelbook sets, Star Trek: Discovery – Season Three features all thirteen episodes of the third season as well as over two hours of extras. Bonus content includes a writer’s log from showrunner Michelle Paradise, a making-of featurette, a special on stunts with the cast and stunt coordinator Christopher McGuire, an examination of the season with Sonequa Martin-Green, a discussion with Kenneth Mitchell on his life with ALS and how his wheelchair was included for his on-screen character, a behind-the-scenes look at the Starship Discovery Bridge, deleted scenes, and a gag reel. Fans can grab the DVD, Blu-ray, and limited-edition Steelbook blu-ray set on Amazon for $29.96, $33.80, and and $43.99, respectively.

Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard“[In The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard,] the world’s most lethal odd couple – bodyguard Michael Bryce (Ryan Reynolds) and hit man Darius Kincaid (Samuel L. Jackson) – are back. Still unlicensed, Bryce is forced into action by Darius’s wife, the infamous international con artist Sonia Kincaid (Salma Hayek). As Bryce is driven over the edge by the volatile spouses, the trio get in over their heads in a global plot and soon find that they are all that stand between Europe and a vengeful and powerful madman (Antonio Banderas). Joining in the fun and deadly mayhem is Morgan Freeman as…well, you’ll have to see.” — from Lionsgate

“[The sequel to the hit film The Hitman’s Bodyguard,] The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard is now out now on DVD, Blu-ray combo pack, and 4K Ultra HD combo pack. Extras include four featurettes on the film’s family dynamics, changes for Michael Bryce’s character, stunts, and a behind-the-scenes look at the set, as well as a gag reel and theatrical trailers. Considering the cast involved on this film it’s a shame there’s no commentary, but there you have it. All three formats are available on Amazon with the DVD priced at $22.99, the Blu-ray at $21.99, and 4K Ultra HD set at $30.99.

Shameless Season Eleven“[In Season Eleven of Shameless,] it’s last call for the Gallaghers and you’re invited to the party to end all parties. After a decade of dysfunction, the South Side’s favorite clan is going out with the biggest bang ever. It’s going to be a wild last ride, but changes are coming that will force each of them to either step up or hit the road. And while devolving may come more naturally than evolving in a family where excess never gets old, they know one thing for certain – Gallaghers may grow up, but they’ll never grow apart.” — from Warner Brothers

Shameless: The Eleventh and Final Season is now out on DVD, featuring all twelve episodes of Season Eleven. Extras are limited to “The Last Call” (Showtime’s post-finale virtual cast reunion) and deleted scenes. It’s sad that the bonus features aren’t more extensive on this one, especially considering what a hit the series has been, but it should be noted that the virtual cast reunion is an hour long, so that’s something. Perhaps there will be a complete series release in the future with more bonus content — one can hope! In the meantime, you can snag the DVD on Amazon for $19.96.

GI Joe Rise of Cobra“Starring Channing Tatum, Marlon Wayans, Sienna Miller, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Rachel Nichols and Ray Park, as well as veteran actors Dennis Quaid and Christopher Eccleston, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra follows a top-secret elite strike force featuring the best operatives from around the globe. After a high-tech secret weapon is stolen by a mysterious and evil organization known as COBRA, it’s a race against time for the G.I. JOE team to avoid their enemy from plunging the world into chaos.

GI Joe Retaliation Bruce Willis, Dwayne Johnson, and Channing Tatum star in the explosive global hit G.I. Joe: Retaliation. The G.I. JOE team has been set up to take the fall for a terrible crime they didn’t commit. Now, ROADBLOCK, DUKE, and the rest of the team must once again face their mortal enemy COBRA, as well as dangerous new threats operating within the government. When all else fails, one option remains —RETALIATION.” — from Paramount

For the first time on 4K UHD, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and G.I. Joe: Retaliation are now available for purchase, with both including a digital copy of the film in addition to the 4K UHD and Blu-ray discs. The only special feature on G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is a commentary by director Stephen Sommers and producer Bob Ducsay, but the extras on G.I. Joe: Retaliation offer a little more in the form of a commentary by director Jon M. Chu and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, the featurette “G.I. Joe: Declassified”, and deleted scenes. The nice part about the commentary for both titles is that it’s featured on both the Blu-ray and the 4K UHD discs, so you can enjoy that particular bonus however you choose to watch the film. It should be noted that the extras on both releases are previously released bonus content, but considering that this is the first chance to own either / both on 4K UHD, it may still be worth it for you regardless. The 4K UHD releases of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and G.I. Joe: Retaliation are available on Amazon for $19.99.

A Quiet Place 2-Movie Collection“[In A Quiet Place: Part II,] following the deadly events at home, the Abbott family (Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe) must now face the terrors of the outside world as they continue their fight for survival in silence. Forced to venture into the unknown, they quickly realize that the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats that lurk beyond the sand path in this gripping, edge-of-your-seat thriller.” — from Paramount

A Quiet Place fans can (silently) rejoice at two new releases — a 2-movie collection of A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place: Part II on Blu-ray and A Quiet Place: Part II on 4K UHD. Bonus features on the 2-movie pack include (on A Quiet Place) a behind-the-scenes look at the film with director John Krasinski and featurettes on the sound design / visual effects and (on A Quiet Place: Part II) a director’s diary from John Krasinski and featurettes on the film’s story elements and creatures, Regan’s character, one of the movie’s key scenes, and visual and sound effects. The 4K release of A Quiet Place: Part II features the same extras that appear on the Blu-ray listed above in the 2-movie set. If you’ve been waiting to grab A Quiet Place: Part II either on its own or as part of a bundle with the original film, one of these options is likely to fit the bill — you can get the 2-movie collection on Amazon for $25.25 and the 4K version of the single film for $24.70.
