Disclaimer : Warner Brothers Home Entertainment asks that we note it provided a free copy of “Superman: Red Son” and “Titans: The Complete Second Season”. The opinions I share are my own.
“Life leads us into temptation as the Golden Globe-winning drama The Affair chronicles what happens when happily married father Noah Solloway crosses paths with young, married waitress Alison Lockhart. The story of their tumultuous affair is told from multiple perspectives, allowing a unique view of the relationship from each character’s vantage point. Between restless lives and reckless choices, Noah and Alison’s actions have lifelong effects, especially on their respective spouses, Helen and Cole. Academy Award winner Anna Paquin offers a glimpse into the inevitable consequences of these events as Alison’s grown-up daughter. Amidst the backdrop of an ongoing murder investigation, their journey unfolds over fie provocative seasons – altering the future of two families forever.” — from CBS
The Affair: The Complete Series is now out in a DVD box set, which presents all five seasons of the show and over eighty minutes of extras. Bonus features include character profiles, an in-depth look at Montauk as a backdrop for the series, a storytelling breakdown by executive producer Sarah Treem, thoughts from cast and crew, and more. Fans can grab the DVD set on Amazon for $43.95, a pretty fair price considering that getting the digital versions of each season are priced at around $20 each.
“When Krypton’s last son crash-lands in Cold War-era Russia instead of rural Kansas [in Superman: Red Son], an alternate reality unfolds in this DC Elseworlds adventure. Here, we find Superman spearheading a Communist campaign to advance the ideologies of the Soviet state. Meanwhile, across the Atlantic, brilliant American scientist Lex Luthor devises a plan to rein in, and ultimately destroy, the alien Soviet threat. What follows is a gripping game of cat and mouse that will leave all of humanity hanging in the balance.” – Warner Brothers
Superman: Red Son is now out in 4K HD, Blu-ray, and DVD formats. Bonus features include featurettes examining the Cold War and previewing other DC films Gotham by Gaslight and The Death of Superman, all-new DC Showcase short The Phantom Stranger, the two-part Justice League episode “A Better World”, two episodes from Superman: Red Son – The Motion Comics, a sneak peek at DC Universe’s upcoming animated movie Justice League Dark: Apokolips War, and trailers of Batman: Hush and The Death and Return of Superman. You can grab it in all formats on Amazon, with price points of $13.35 for the DVD, $15.40 for the Blu-ray, and $14.99 for the 4K HD.
“Throughout film history, Hollywood has produced a number of sweeping epics and generation-defining movies. However, one Biblical sage – Cecil B. DeMille’s The Ten Commandments – has withstood the test of time. Beginning with the original 1923 silent film, a powerful story unfolds comparing the Old Testament morality to contemporary immorality. The 1956 film is universally acknowledged among critics as a cinematic masterpiece with a legendary cast including Charlton Heston, Yul Brynner, and Anne Baxter. From its Academy Award-winning director and revolutionary Oscar-winning special effects to its sweeping score and unforgettable sets, The Ten Commandments presents the inspiring story of Moses in all its stunning glory.” – from Paramount
The Ten Commandments: Special Collectors Edition is now out in a Blu-ray digibook, which includes both the 1923 and 1956 versions as well as a sixteen-page gallery booklet with rare photos and background about both films from the Paramount archives. Bonus features include commentary by Katherine Orrison (the author of Written in Stone: Making Cecil B. DeMille’s Epic, The Ten Commandments), theatrical trailers, a making-of featurette and newsreel for the premiere of the 1956 film, hand-tinted footage of the exodus and parting of the Red Sea sequence in the 1923 film, and photo galleries. The special edition Blu-ray set is available now on Amazon for just $14.99 — pretty good considering that it includes two films and the collectible packaging.
“Titans: The Complete Second Season continues the story of [the] DC Super Heroes as they face their greatest challenge yet. In season two, following the aftermath of their encounter with Trigon, Dick Grayson reforms the Titans. Under his supervision in their new home at Titans Tower, Rachel aka Raven, Gar aka Beast Boy and Jason Todd aka Robin train together as a team. They are joined by Hank Hall and Dawn Granger aka Hawk and Dove and Donna Troy aka Wonder Girl. Although these original Titans attempt to transition into a regular life, when old enemies resurface everyone must come together to take care of unfinished business. And as this family of old and new Titans – including Conner Kent and Rose Wilson – learn to co-exist, the arrival of Deathstroke, brings to light the sins of the old Titans which threaten to tear this new Titans family apart once more.” – from Warner Brothers
Titans: The Complete Second Season is currently available on DVD and Blu-ray on Amazon. Extras on this one are limited to the featurette “Jason Todd: Fate by the Fans”, an exploration of Jason Todd’s DC Universe history and how fans have helped shape its direction (kind of surprising since we know how much DC likes to do releases from their vault, previews of other films, etc., but there you have it). The DVD and Blu-ray are both available on Amazon, for $19.75 and $22.99 respectively.
