Headsup: Military, Mommies, and Missions Galactic

Disclaimer : Warner Brothers Home Entertainment asks that we note it provided a free copy of “Fuller House: The Complete Fourth Season”.  The opinions I share are my own.

Catch 22“Based on Joseph Heller’s seminal novel of the same name, Catch-22 is the story of the incomparable, artful dodger, Yossarian (Christopher Abbott), a US Air Force bombardier in World War II who is furious because thousands of people he has never met are trying to kill him. But his real problem is not the enemy, but rather his own army which keeps increasing the number of missions the men must fly to complete their service. Yet if Yossarian makes any attempt to avoid his military assignments, he’ll be in violation of Catch-22, a hilariously sinister bureaucratic rule which specifies that a concern for one’s own safety in the face of dangers which are real and immediate is the process of a rational mind; a man is considered insane if he willingly continues to fly dangerous combat missions, but a request to be removed from duty is evidence of sanity and therefore makes him ineligible to be relieved from duty.” — from Paramount

Catch-22 is now available on DVD, with all six episodes of the limited series along with over an hour of bonus content. Among the extras are a three-part behind-the-scenes feature (“The Cogs of War”), deleted scenes, and outtakes. The DVD set is on Amazon for $17.99. Fans should know you can get the entire miniseries there digitally for just $9.99, so it’s up to you to decide if the hour of bonus content merits the $8.00 increase in price.

Star Trek discovery season two“After answering a distress signal from the U.S.S. Enterprise, Star Trek : Discovery : Season Two finds the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery joining forces with Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) on a new mission to investigate seven mysterious red signals and the appearance of an unknown being called the Red Angel. While the crew must work together to unravel their meaning and origin, First Officer Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) is forced to face her past with the return of her estranged brother, Spock (Ethan Peck). Star Trek: Discovery: Season Two also stars Doug Jones (“Commander Saru”), Anthony Rapp (“Lt. Commander Paul Stamets”), Mary Wiseman (“Ensign Sylvia Tilly”), Shazad Latif (“Ash Tyler”), Wilson Cruz (“Dr. Hugh Culber”), Mary Chieffo (“L’Rell”), Tig Notaro (“Chief Engineer Reno”), Rebecca Romijn (“Number One”) and Michelle Yeoh (“Philippa Georgiou”).” — from CBS

Star Trek Discovery: Season Two is out now on Blu-ray and DVD.  Both sets have all fourteen episodes of the second season along with a fairly wide spread of bonus features, including nine behind-the-scenes featurettes, two Star Trek: Short Trek stand-alone short stories (“The Brightest Star” and “Runaway”), audio commentary on select episodes, deleted and extended scenes, and a gag reel.  You can snag the season on Amazon on Blu-ray for $33.44 and on DVD for $27.03.

Fuller House Season Four“On the fourth season of Fuller House, the Tanners, Fullers, and Gibblers are set for more fun adventures and life-changing moments. Steve and D.J. face relationship pressures while they try to recreate the magic they used to have when they were younger. Jackson learns how to drive, begins playing high school sports and attends the prom. Max runs for class president. Kimmy deals with pregnancy cravings and worries her relationship with Stephanie will change once she has Stephanie’s baby. Stephanie questions her ability to be a mom. Danny ponders if retirement was the right call, and Fernando gets a surprise visit from his mother. It’s an exciting season filled with laughs, surprises and good times that fans won’t want to miss!” — from Warner Brothers

Fuller House: The Complete Fourth Season will be released on DVD on December 17th, featuring all thirteen episodes of Season Four. Unfortunately there are no bonus features on this one (surely they could have done some sort of commentary or even just a gag reel?), but there you have it. You can pre-order the DVD on Amazon for $18.99, but with no bonus features in the mix, it might be worth it to wait and see where they set the digital price in case that route might save you a few bucks.
