Our feature film for tonight is 1940’s Before I Hang with Boris Karloff. But before we get there, it’s time for our #TrackoftheDay. This one’s from the Nightmare Revisited album–basically a Nightmare Before Christmas tribute/covers album. Rodrigo y Gabriela started in Mexico before moving to Dublin for several years and now they’re back in Mexico City. They play guitars like they’re trying to test them for fire resistance. Check it out for yourself:
Now, before Karloff, I wanted to see if I had managed to post all the variations versions of celebrities reading Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Raven” possible. It turns out I missed at least one. And it’s an important one. Showing here:
Yes, that’s from Dick Clark’s Magical, Musical Halloween from 1983, I believe. Just…wow.
So now we have Before I Hang, which you could be forgiven for thinking is a sequel to Karloff’s The Man They Could Not Hang from 1939. Karloff is yet again a scientist, and one who should have learned an age-old axiom: “Be careful whose blood you’re using.” Also in the cast is Edward Van Sloan (yes, he who was Van Helsing).
