Headsup: Superheroes, Lawyers, and Anime

Disclaimer: Warner Bros. Home Entertainment requests we note that it provided a free copy of “Supergirl: The Complete Fourth Season” and “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow: The Complete Fourth Season”. The opinions I share are my own.

Supergirl Season 4“In season four, Supergirl faces a bigger threat than she’s ever faced before – a new wave of anti-alien sentiment, spreading across National City that’s fomented by Agent Liberty. As Kara mentors a new reporter at CatCo, Nia Nal, and tries to use the power of the press to shine a light on the issues threatening to tear the city apart, Supergirl takes to the skies to battle the many villains who rise up in this era of divisiveness. But how does Supergirl battle a movement when she, herself an alien, represents one of the main things people are fearful of?” — Warner Brothers

Supergirl: The Complete Fourth Season is now out on DVD and Blu-ray, both of which feature all twenty-two episodes of Season Four along with several extras. Bonus content includes the 3-part “Elseworlds” superhero crossover event with Arrow and The Flash, three featurettes (“Villains: Modes of Persuasion”, “Inside the Crossover: Elseworlds”, and “Best of DC TV’s Comic-Con Panels San Diego 2018”), deleted scenes, and a gag reel. You can snag the DVD on Amazon for $23.85 and the Blu-ray for $26.39.

Legends of Tomorrow Season 4“After defeating the demon Mallus by cuddling him to death last season, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow join John Constantine and Ava Sharpe’s Time Bureau to save their world – and their legacy – from magical creatures from myths, fairytales and legends who have escaped and infected history. As the Legends time-travel across historical events and encounter famous figures, they now have to contend with an added shot of magical craziness!” — from Warner Brothers

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow: The Complete Fourth Season will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on September 24th. The sets will have all sixteen episodes from Season Four with a handful of bonus features, including two featurettes (“DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Season 4 Post Production Theater” and “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow: Legendary Storytelling”), some unaired scenes, and a gag reel. Both formats are available for pre-order on Amazon, with the DVD currently priced at $17.99 and the Blu-ray at $22.99.

FLCL Progressive“The follow-up to one of the most insane anime ever created, FLCL: Progressive brings together members of the original team with a whole new generation of creators. From the legendary anime studio Production I.G and Adult Swim. FLCL: Progressive tells the story of 14-year-old Hidomi, her classmate Ide, and two otherworldly beings, “Jinyu” and “Haruha Raharu,” who are determined to unlock their hidden potential. Mixed up in this is an all-powerful force known as “ATOMSK,” a gorgeous Chrysler Bel Aire… and a certain Vespa Scooter.” — from Cartoon Network

FLCL: Progressive is coming out on DVD on October 1. In addition to all six episodes of the sequel, the DVD will also boast two featurettes (“Meet the Creators” and “The Pillows”) about the new era of the show and how the band The Pillows became tied to the series. Fans should also note that the DVD offers both English and Japanese audio. To pre-order, you can check out the DVD at Best Buy (currently priced at $14.99).

Good Fight Season 3“The world went crazy in the The Good Fight’s second season, and now, in season three, the resistance does. Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski) tries to figure out whether you can resist a crazy administration without going crazy yourself, while Adrian Boseman (Delroy Lindo) and Liz Reddick-Lawrence (Audra McDonald) struggle with a new post-factual world where the lawyer who tells the best story triumphs over the lawyer with the best facts. Meanwhile, Lucca Quinn (Cush Jumbo) balances a new baby with a new love, and Maia Rindell (Rose Leslie) finds a new Mephistopheles in Roland Blum (Michael Sheen), a lawyer who is corruption incarnate.” — from CBS

The Good Fight: Season Three is out now on DVD, which presents all ten episodes of the third season. Bonus content on this one is decidedly light in the form of deleted scenes and a gag reel along with the pilot of Star Trek: Discovery, but if you want Season Three on the shelf, it gets the job done. CBS All Access members get the season as part of their subscription, while the rest of us can grab the DVD on Amazon for $28.99.
