32 Days of Halloween X, Day 7: Cry of the Banshee!

Cry of the Banshee

Hello.  Day 7 of the tenth year of 32 Days of Halloween plows forward. For tonight’s main event, we’ve got 1970’s Cry of the Banshee.

But first, a double helping of classic Twilight Zone.  First, I picked “One for the Angels” because Halloween, like most everything, is improved by more Ed Wynn. Here he’s trying to outwit Death. Good luck with that. Then we have TZ irregular Bill Mumy playing a kid with a very special phone in “Long Distance Call.”

Cry of the Banshee finds Vincent Price as an evil witchfinder out to take out a coven of witches. But, you know, real witches don’t play. So none of that is going to go particularly well.

Don’t be fooled by the poster snippet we have up there…the movie opens with a quote from Poe’s “The Bells,” but that’s really Poe for the duration.  Price had some success with Poe kinda-adaptations, so it makes sense that they tried for that. And in 1970, there was no Internet (kids, ask your parents) so where the hell were you supposed to go to find out if there was a Poe story called “Cry of the Banshee”?  The library or something? Regardless, there’s always room for Price.  So enjoy.
