Music Tuesday: Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Sign of Four, Grandchildren & More…

Yeah Yeah Yeahs

More music picks for your Tuesday. If you like what you hear, use the links provided to snag it for yourself from Amazon. Doing so through us gives us kickbacks, and those help pay for stuff like more bandwidth. And also so we can buy more music.

So we had posted “Sacrilege” by Yeah Yeah Yeahs previously. And it was tasty then. But then the band went on Letterman along with the choir known as Broadway Inspirational Voices and did something that always makes me happy: they sounded just as good–if not better–live as they do in the studio. Some bands are studio bands and you accept that and move on. But a nice, tight, rock-your-face-off able-to-do-it-live band? Those bring a smile to my face. And choirs help. The album, Mosquito, is due out next week. (Amazon: “Sacrilege” MP3 Single; Mosquito: CD, Deluxe CD, Vinyl.)

Next up, a live rendition of “Sunrise” by Grandchildren, recorded at The Hotbox Studios in Philadelphia. And again, here we have a band that manages to sound pretty damn fantastic live, even though there’s a helluva lot of stuff going on. Again, there is happiness. And hey, double percussion! Their sophomore album, Golden Age, is due out May 7th. (Amazon: CD; Vinyl.)

What apparently sounds like somebody just sampled some vibraphonic jazz and reworked it…is all live instruments. It’s The Sign of Four and their opening track, “Topsy Turvy” from Hammer, Anvil, Stirrup. And if that wasn’t enough, the video (from their record company, mind) opens with Peter Cushing having a bad trip. Talk about sealing the deal. The album is new and out this month. Please note: NSFW video. Also note: the MP3 album is just $7 and the CD isn’t out until the end of this month. (Amazon: CD; MP3.)

Next up, we move to the seven piece German ska-pop band, Destination Anywhere. Imagine Reel Big Fish after some serious therapy and, well, in German. Do I have any idea what the hell they’re saying? No. Maybe Dom can help. But I do know that horns are universe. The album is Hier ist Godot and the track is “Sommerkleid.” (Amazon: MP3.)
Rustie: “Triadzz” A-side of a single shared with “Slasherr”

And we move onto the latest A-side from Scottish Rustie. It’s “Triadzz” and it sounds to me like what would have happened if Grant Morrison’s Mageddon was a happening club instead of a giant life-killing orb of death. Translation: I think it works. (Amazon: MP3.)

We move on to French producer Para One and a small army here: the track is “Every Little Thing” off his 2012 Passion album. He’s joined on the track by Irfane and Teki Latex. And then the remix here is by Paper Plates. Got all that? Good. Because it’s a really nice party remix that I think improves on the original. And hey, bonus: currently available for free download. Free is good.

So we head back to Germany for Ancient Astronauts and a track, “Break My Heart in 2,” which reminds me a helluva lot like RJD2. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. And when you’ve got somebody who has a logo that reminds me a bit of Moebius. What’s not to like? The track is currently available for free download in exchange for your email address.

And lastly, Tnght, a pair of producer/DJs that I was trying to put my finger on what it felt like they were channeling…then I read the rest of the press release. Ah yes, this track “Acrylics” has one and a half feet firmly placed in happy hardcore. Nice. You can find their tour schedule and other hijinks on their official Facebook page. The track is only available via iTunes. Get the link here.
