32 Days of Halloween VI, Day 12: Gabriel Byrne Reads The Red Death

Masque of the Red Death by Michael Cowell

Day 12 has become about Edgar Allan Poe. And as for “The Masque of the Red Death,” well, Roger Corman turned it into a film. Your Uncle Bill’s given it a reading. I’ve given it a reading. But a really solid interp of it comes from Gabriel Byrne and the why-the-hell-is-it-still-out-of-print Closed on Account of Rabies–the all-star Poe reading two-disc set from 1997. (It’s going for $5 used on Amazon. Get it. Seriously.) You can check that out below the jump.

And, just as a bonus–and because we can–Basil Rathbone will read “Annabel Lee” for you. Because, you know, Poe.

The Rathbone reading is from the Caedmon Edgar Allan Poe Audio Collection…and that’s pricey and out of print. Alas.

Also on Day 12, we checked out the Corman trailer for Fall of the House of Usher, two interps of “The Pit and the Pendulum,” a bit of haunted Disney, and firstly, the trailer for I Bury the Living.
