Stuff You Need to Know: Paradise Lost Movie Shelved; Milton Quits CAA

Satan from Paradise Lost
Dammit, I wanted that guy from The Hangover to play me!

Need to stay up to date with pop culture news but don’t want to wade through 57 blog posts a day to do it? No worries. We do it for you: one post with only the most critical items so you can get it out of the way in one sitting. You’re welcome.

  • “Greedily Alex Proyas’ Paradise Lost engorged without restraint,/ And knew not eating death.” That’s right, the film has been killed due to budget issues. According to Variety, the technology to pull it off is still too expensive and the budget couldn’t be brought down to earth enough for Legendary Pictures. So whatever fantasy you had about Bradley Cooper in a satanic red loincloth or something will just have to remain inside your own heads. And really, the only person who needs to touch this project is Peter Greenaway. I’m just saying.
  • The Amazing Spider-Man new trailer is up.

I will say this. Regardless of the rest of the film: Andrew Garfield is going to own this.

  • Atlas Shrugged, whatever you think of Part 1, is getting a Part 2 and it starts production in April.
  • The trailer for Bourne Legacy is live. Check this out:

Now, don’t get me wrong. I dig Jeremy Renner. He was great in Ghost Protocol. He’s a great Hawkeye. But am I the only one who thinks this is the Weapon X movie? Just wondering.

  • The Fall is a BBC five-part series coming later this year or early next starring Gillian Anderson as a cop chasing a serial killer. Sold. Done. Moving on. Source: Variety.
  • Heat is being remade? Oh wait, not the Michael Mann one. The William Goldman scribed one that was based on his own novel. Jason Statham is starring; Brian DePalma is helming. No start date in the Variety article.
  • Billy Connolly has joined the cast of The Hobbit two-parter as dwarf king Dain Ironfoot…and the cast is reportedly complete now. Source.
  • So long, House. Its May 21st episode will be its last. In a nutshell, it’s an older show that’s expensive to make, is past its prime, and…haven’t they run out of health issues yet? Let’s just hope Hugh Laurie goes onto something even more awesome after it. Source: Variety.
  • Helena Bonham Carter is to be Madame Thenardier in the musical Les Miserables movie. Considering it doesn’t have to be sung but rather sung-spoken, this is really no-brainer casting. Source.
  • So it looks like the Space: 1999 reboot is happening on TV and is indeed going to be Space: 2099, which if I mentioned it before and if I didn’t make some sort of joke about futuristic versions of Spider-Man and Doctor Doom, well…I should have. It’s just in development. From the V remake people. Which means unless somebody big steps in, you can expect it sometime around the titular year. Source: Variety.
  • The 300 Followup (which is untitled in the Variety article, but is called 300: Battle of Artemisia on IMDB) appears to be actually happening…300 scribes Zack Snyder and Kurt Johnstad are writing it. And they have no idea if it’s a prequel, sequel or what.

    • Because god forbid that the 300 people should incorporate any actual…OH…history into their projects.
