Here we have a live performance of “The Easy Way Out” by Josh Ottum. I’ve seen a lot of tracks that seem to sort of fall apart when you go from the studio “solo” version to a one person live solo version, but this works completely stripped down.

The studio version in question is from his 2009 album Like the Season. That’s available as a reasonably priced MP3 download but you can get it used for super-cheap on CD at Amazon as well.
One of mine for this week is Natalia Kills and “Wonderland,” which must be a single because it has a video. Sometimes I just like things with mildly interesting lyrics and a beat. And hey, I’ve been fascinated by Alice in Wonderland before. So.

I dunno, maybe the weird dystopian by way of a Tom Petty video vibe has some appeal as well. Anyway, that’s off her Perfectionist album. The song itself is available for free at the moment from Amazon. You can also snag the entire album on MP3 or CD.

Rob’s pick is Bryan Ferry and Roxy Music with their excellent cover of John Lennon‘s “Jealous Guy.” Here’s what seems to be YouTube gold: the poster states this is quite possibly their first performance of the song–this is from the end of a show in Dortmund, Germany in December 1980…shortly after Lennon’s death.

Saxophone solo FTW. Anyway, that’s available on the three-disc Platinum Collection which hit CD a few years back. Rob says “I heard their cover of ‘Jealous Guy’ again this weekend for the first time in ages! It is only available here! Lots of great other Roxy Music tracks as well!” In other words, he approves. It’s snaggable from Amazon here.
Another one from me here…it’s “Meteorlogy” by Overseer.

Oddly the album Wreckage appears to be out of print. But you can get still get it used from Amazon.

The trouble with Vienna Teng and “Grandmother Song” is that the clapping completely screws up all the live versions of it on YouTube from a sound perspective even though they are cool and high energy. So we fall back on this:

It’s from Inland Territory and that’s available on both MP3 and CD from Amazon.
And because I can to end up, here’s some Skunk Anansie. This is “But The Sex Was Good,” which is a B-side off of the “All I Want” single.

Granted, it’s the second “All I Want” single. And it’s not available anywhere else at present–but the import CD version of the single used is the cheapest way to grab it.
