It’s South Riding, new to DVD from BBC Home Video. Here’s what they have to say for themselves:
Set in the aftermath of World War I, Sarah Burton (Anna Maxwell Martin) returns to her childhood home of South Riding, in Yorkshire, after having lost her fiancé in the war. She emerges as a modern career woman – full of ambition and fire – and takes on the headmistress position at a struggling high school for girls. At the same time, Robert Carne (David Morrissey) also returns to the small town to work the family farm after having lost his wealth in the midst of the Great Depression. Past and present collide when Sarah clashes with Robert, and a story of timeless struggle – politics, recession and love – emerges.
