It’s no secret that here at Need Coffee, whether it’s 32 Days of Halloween or otherwise, we’re big fans of Disney’s Haunted Mansion. We post about it in October whenever we can. That’s why it’s pretty awesome to find this snippet of Disney‘s Wonderful World of Color, which takes you behind the scenes of the creation of the attraction. Sure, it’s filled with puns and Osmonds (and remember, this is back when Kurt Russell was doing a lot of work for Disney–if this is truly the debut of the Mansion then we’re talking 1969) and people narrating what’s happening like they’re either recording a radio show or written by Chris Claremont but it’s still pretty cool. Especially when you see the archaic means by which they worked the animatronics. Would love to see an updated backstage tour…anybody have one?

Last year at this time we were taking a stroll through Baltimore’s Poe House. The year before that it was Milton Berle vs. Dracula and then Year One was the trailer for the original Alien.
A few years back I was lucky enough to win a backstage tour of The Haunted Mansion. We weren’t allowed to take any pictures, so unless they made an ‘Official’ backstage tour, there probably isn’t anything newer available.
Thanks, Louis. You lucky, lucky bastage.
