This Just In: More Saturday Morning Cartoons

Saturday Morning Cartoons 1980s DVD Cover Art

Even old as I am, I still miss the notion of Saturday morning cartoons. Kids just don’t understand the pleasure of waking up early on Saturdays to plop down eagerly in front of showsthat you could only catch once a week, but we remember. Although it is pretty badass to be able to find a slew of cartoons online on demand or snag them on DVD. But still. I contend somebody should start the Saturday Morning Cartoon Channel, that shows cartoons straight through till golf starts, then it fades out and begins another block of goodness.

[ad#longpost]Anyway, I’m rambling. What started all this is the receipt of this set from Warner Brothers, which is chock full of more obscure favorites. (Read: not enough support to throw out a full DVD set yet.) You get episodes of Thundarr the Barbarian, Mr. T, The Flintstone Kids, The Monchhichis, The Kwicky Koala Show, Chuck Norris: Karate Kommandos, The Completely Mental Misadventures of Ed Grimley, Galtar and the Golden Lance, and The Biskitts. The latter of which I had forgotten even existed.

In total, there are 11 episodes over the 2 discs, as well as a Thundarr featurette: Lords of Light! Thundarr the Barbarian. Frankly, this is the only place to get some of these shows outside of a bootleg table at a con. I’m sure if they sell enough, WB will release more, seeing as how they’ve been adding new volumes to their sets from the 1960s and 70s. So the double-edged sword is this: you may be purchasing this set which has shows on it you don’t care about, but it kinda has to happen before they’ll even consider throwing out a complete series set of any of this stuff. So use that knowledge however you see fit.
