Okay, so we mentioned that Ponyo (aka Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea) is the latest film from Hayao Miyazaki. Miyazaki rocks balls. He just does.
And now here is the Disney trailer that is bringing this to cinemas on August 14th:
And don’t flinch because the notion of Disney releasing it gives you pause. Trust me, Miyazaki will get his film out the way he wants it out.

I realize that some folks might not be familiar with Miyazaki’s work, so here’s a couple of tips.
If you have kids and want to know what Miyazaki’s like, check out My Neighbor Totoro, which just might be the best family film you’ve never seen.
If you’re an adult and want to check out some extremely fantastic Miyazaki, then check out Princess Mononoke–here’s a tip as to just how awesome it is. The guy who translated it for English audiences? Some guy named Neil Gaiman. For proof, listen to the line Minnie Driver says at 1:07 in the trailer.
But Miyazaki makes animation films that are challenging to people of all ages–and that’s why they’re so good. And I think we’re ready for that in this country. So go see Ponyo on August 14th and prove it.
