Don LaFontaine, probably one of the most recognized voices that belong to a person that most people couldn’t name and simply referred to as “You know, that guy” (ranking up there with the likes of Paul Frees, I’m sure), passed away on September 1st due to a collapsed lung. This video is a nice, quick version of his story and how he did change the voice industry.

I just love the idea that this famous voice guy would knock out a voicemail message for you if he had time, just for the sheer hell of it. Brilliant.

And of course, he was tapped for one of Geico’s few amusing advertising campaigns as well, which is probably where most people first put a face and name to the voice.

And of course, there’s the legendary 5 Voiceover Guys in a Limo video as well.
Thanks for everything, Don. Even the best trailers will suck a little more without you in the world.
Widge thanks for the great post. Don will be sorely missed by those of us who find an escape in movies and their trailers.
