George Furth, character actor and playwright, has died at age 75. Cause of death is unreported at the moment.
The playwright portion of his career I knew about, of course, but just never connected (for some odd reason) Furth the actor (who played Van Johnson in Blazzing Saddles and Woodcock in Butch Cassidy) with Furth the playwright. Furth did three collaborations with Sondheim, the most successful of which was Company. We did a round-up of “Not Getting Married Today” previously.
