Universal Studios Hollywood is going to stage Creature From the Black Lagoon: The Musical beginning in spring of 2009. Admission is included with your ticket price, so no need to start saving your nickels now.
Am I the only one disturbed that “hilarious” was used twice there? Now, granted, admittedly the original movie is a bit smirky when you’re looking at a guy in a Fish Man costume menacing a boatful of people. And you could say that for a lot of classic movies–but within the context of their original release, they deserve a bit of respect. Still–“hilarious”? I know it’s just a theme park musical, but still.
Now, granted, if these guys were writing the musical, we’d give it a pass. Anyway, I got some swag for the first person to review this theme park musical for me. There, I’ve offered it.
Update: A poster has surfaced (no pun intended) here.

This is the new way to go, people are all burnt out on remakes so they’re going to start disguising them with music. If they use Creature From The Black Lagoon by The Monsters somewhere in there then they’ve got my thumbs up.
Seeing this for the first time last week, with “technical difficulties,” long wait lines, and an overly hot, overly packed theater, I have only one word for this production…..STUPID. Extremely disappointing.
