Okay, you might be asking: Widge? Manilow? What the–?
And here’s all I can tell you: there’s huge numbers of you guys entering our Beautiful Ballads contest. And with those kinds of numbers, you can’t all tell me “Well, we’re doing it for Miles Davis.” Or, “Oh, I just entered for Aretha.” No. There are Manilow fans among you.
We’re not here to judge you. We’re all friends here. The caffeinated, mad sort of friends who borrow your favorite DVDs and keep them for two years, granted, and expect you to pick up the check when we go out for Krystal–but friends all the same. So if you like Manilow, I want to get you some Manilow. (Especially for those big happy numbers–woohoo!)
Ahem. Sorry. We’re giving away the Songs From the Seventies DVD. So, information and entry form after the break.
Performing live in his old Brooklyn stomping grounds, Barry Manilow’s latest DVD is the best sort of homecoming. A wonderfully entertaining television special, Barry Manilow: Songs From The Seventies was filmed in September 2007 at the old Navy Yard in Brooklyn, “right down the block from where I grew up in Williamsburg,” as Manilow explains onstage. The special premiered on PBS stations across the nation in early December.
Rhino, in association with Stiletto Television, captures the artist’s triumphant return to his old neighborhood where he sings his biggest hits — and some great covers — from the decade that made him famous. The two-DVD set includes the television special in 5.1 Surround Sound on the first disc, plus a bonus disc featuring an unaired mini-concert of alternate performances, along with behind-the-scenes footage. An excellent companion to Manilow’s latest smash album, The Greatest Songs of the Seventies -which debuted in the Top 5 — this special finds Manilow focusing on the music of the decade when he became one of music’s biggest stars.
