Coming on the heels of our last post about the film, at least we have a title now: Quantum of Solace. Now I know you’re probably thinking the same thing I am: “Wasn’t that the name of the last Enigma album?”
But no, it actually was a short story by Ian Fleming that appeared in the For Your Eyes Only collection. And if you check out the plot on Wikipedia, it’s probably safe to say that a lot of the story is going to be shunted. Which begs the question…why use the title?
I had to look it up to see if it was a prank, even though it was listed in Variety. Maybe this is a Blue Harvest to get people to quit asking about the title? I don’t know. It just…is an interesting choice. Let’s leave it at that.
Update: Logo revealed…see it below.
Perhaps they chose Quantum of Solace because it lets them do the two-Os-in-a-row-for-007 routine? Possibly.
Wow. I have to say, I hope there aren’t any elements of the original story. It’s the only one where Bond is totally passive, listening to someone’s dinner tale of a couple they knew and the tragedy of a relationship. It’s extremely depressing. I hope they’ll steal elements from some of the novels whose titles appeared in former Bond films (but little else about them). The older franchise left out some really cool plots from Fleming.
