What’s interesting is that the story appears to have been adapted three times in 1920: this one, one by Metro Studios as a short(er) film, and one by F.W. Murnau (yes, he of Nosferatu) that is apparently completely and utterly lost. The butler of the good doctor was played by Bela Lugosi.
