Jack Kirby’s 2001: A Space Odyssey: A Picture For the Ages

Jack Kirby 2001 comic scan

Kubrick‘s 2001 was adapted in 1976 by the artist you would immediately want to adapt anything huge, sprawling and cosmic: Jack Kirby. Scans of some bits are online here.

I know this brands me a heretic every time, but 2001 just isn’t one of my favorite films. It has some great moments in it, but like a lot of Kubrick, I find it rather flawed. Go ahead, call me names. Everyone does.

There was not only the standard movie adaptation comic, but a series that followed as well.

For more info on this, you can check out some articles and sketches here, which were apparently provided to that site by our buddies at TwoMorrows.

Found via Sore Eyes.

Update: The scans have been taken down. If you Google Image search for “Jack Kirby 2001,” however, you can find some still.
