Kubrick‘s 2001 was adapted in 1976 by the artist you would immediately want to adapt anything huge, sprawling and cosmic: Jack Kirby. Scans of some bits are online here.
I know this brands me a heretic every time, but 2001 just isn’t one of my favorite films. It has some great moments in it, but like a lot of Kubrick, I find it rather flawed. Go ahead, call me names. Everyone does.
There was not only the standard movie adaptation comic, but a series that followed as well.
