New York, April 27, 2007: Vanguard Productions follows their award-winning art book, Famous Monster Movie Art of Basil Gogos with a deliciously ghoulish new collection of eye candy in time for Halloween 2007. Mad Monster Mash Art of David Hartman by fan-fave horror writer, Steve Niles and award winning animation artist, David Hartman is to be dedicated to ‘Monster Mash’ singer Bobby ‘Boris’ Pickett who died of leukemia, April 26, 2007 at age 69. Pickett’s dead-on Boris Karloff impression propelled the tune to the top of the charts in 1962 (and subsequent releases), became one of pop music’s most enduring one-hit wonders. The colorful new monster art book from Vanguard and critically acclaimed editor, J. David Spurlock features an Introduction by Rockstar and horror filmmaker ROB ZOMBIE.
About the new book, Rob Zombie said, “Plug your decaying little gray matter into the freak-o-delic world of David Hartman. This Hartman nightmare is the finest selection of stalking skunk apes, stumbling zombies, stitched faced ghouls, brain-encased space creatures and sexy young babes lost in the woods this side of your Auntie Cornelius’s monkey suit.”
David Hartman is an Emmy, and Spectrum Award recognized director, animator and illustrator. In addition to work with Jack Black and Rob Zombie, he has worked on such TV shows as Jackie Chan Adventures, Spiderman, The Starship Troopers Chronicles, Godzilla, Stuart Little 3, Big Guy and Rusty, Max Steele and Extreme Ghostbusters. Hartman is the Artist-Director of 2 animated Rob Zombie music videos “American Witch” and “The Lords of Salem” and artist on Zombie’s Devil’s Rejects comic book.
Writer Steve Niles was named by Fangoria magazine as one of the top 13 rising terror talents. SPIDER-MAN’S Sam Raimi is filming Niles’ 30 DAYS OF NIGHT; he wrote THE LURKERS screenplay for Raw Entertainment and, with Rob Zombie, wrote BIGFOOT. Niles’ writing or comic books includes Batman: Gotham County Line and collaborations with Clive Barker, Richard Matheson and Harlan Ellison.
About Bobby ‘Boris’ Pickett, Hartman said, “When J David Spurlock suggested the title Mad Monster Mash, I was ecstatic. It was a perfect mix between Harvey Kurtzman’s film, MAD MONSTER PARTY and the hilariously entertaining song “Monster Mash” by Bobby ‘Boris’ Pickett. These pop-culture landmarks are typical of the horrific fun I strive to create in my Monsters-Freaks-and-Girls art! For all the enjoyment he brought the world, it is an honor to dedicate this book to Bobby ‘Boris’ Pickett.”
