Mike Patton, one of the vocalists I revere as a god, has a new project/album about to hit from his own Ipecac Records: Peeping Tom. The list of co-conspirators on this thing is formidable, to say the least: Kool Keith, Massive Attack, and Norah Jones (apparently saying “fuck,” which has everybody all a-twitter…no idea) are just a few.
Check out the project info. Here’s a slice:
This is my version of pop music. In a way, this is an exercise for me: taking all these things I’ve learned over the years and putting them into a pop format. I’ve worked with many people who have said to me, ‘oh you have a pop record in you, eventually you’ll find it,’ and I always laughed at them. I guess I owe them an apology.
Christ, man, I sure as hell wish all pop music would sound as sweet as “Mojo.” That’s a track he did with Rahzel and Dan the Automator and you can find it at So Much Silence, which gave me the headsup about all this coolness.
May 30th is the date. Can’t wait.
Rahzel + Dan The Automator + Mike Patton? NOW you have my attention!
myspace has the whole album available to listen to http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=50340625 check it out.
