The show has declined in later seasons, but every show does that. Of course, this one started out so well, it had a long way to fall. At least every episode isn’t an ER-esque “very special episode,” so we can be grateful for that, anyway. Here we’ve got the election approaching with Jimmy Smits vying for the Democratic nod and Alan Alda playing a Republican that every real conversative wished existed. Ah well.
You get all twenty-two sixth season episodes on this six-disc set which streeted just this week. It comes with three commentary tracks by executive producers John Wells and Alex Graves. There’s also a featurette on the character of C.J. Cregg, played by Needcoffee fave Allison Janney, and how Cregg has changed over the course of the series.
I was impressed with the amount of guest stars in this season, recurring or otherwise. I’d list them all here but the server would explode. Some of our favorites are Jason Isaacs, Lily Tomlin, Gary Cole, Ed O’Neill, Penn & Teller, Marlee Matlin, Stephen Root, Christopher Lloyd (as Lawrence Lessig!), Brian Dennehy and Ron Silver.
As the series heads towards its end, completists will definitely want to snag this for their collection.
